Why Study Russian?

Saying that Russia has changed in recent years is an understatement.  Its economy has boomed for over a decade, spurred by high oil prices and foreign investment into its still-growing markets. Its universities are still recognized world-wide and its growing companies offer internships that stand out on resumes, showing that an applicant can be submerged in a foreign culture and succeed. There is also employment with the government and international businesses for those who understand Russia, its language and unique culture.

If we didn't believe in the potential of Russia, this website and our organization would not exist. If many, many others didn't believe in Russia, neither would a lot of other organizations and websites. Below is short list of articles and sites that further explain the importance of understanding Russia, with it's culture so different from our own.

Russian in the Real World is an extensive article by Paul Richardson of Russian Life Magazine.  In it, he describes how several professional people have learned and continue to use Russian.  (article in pdf)

"Sound Bites" is an SRAS compilation of quotes from professionals and government officials advocating the study of Russia and Russian.

SRAS Interviews and Personalities provides interviews and stories from professionals who use Russian in their jobs and from students who hope to use Russian professionally.

Russnet.org answers the question "Why Russian?"

Georgia Tech provides its own page of reason to studies Russian - covering business, politics, culture, and regional concerns for the state of Georgia.
