Resources for Russia Related Study The School of Russian and Asian Studies is committed to encouraging study abroad in Russia and the study of Russia from abroad. In addition to a wide array of study-abroad programs, we have developed many free resources for students and teachers. Contributions and suggestions are always welcome here. The Newsletter is a free monthly publication delivering original articles and interviews on Russian language and culture, news and analysis, and free interactive Russian lessons. To subscribe, contact us with an email with "subscribe" in the subject field.
The Library is a unique project designed to give students broad perspectives on specific subjects. Each entry presents information about Russia-related issues and then provides annotated links to the Internet's best sites for news, government agencies, and other resources about those issues. The Library is not meant to give a complete understanding, but rather to present a wide array of information and sources in an accessible, annotated format. Begin to formulate ideas here, then take the next step on your own! VESTNIK, The Journal of Russian and Asian Studies is a scholarly journal publishing the best in undergraduate and graduate research on any subject of relevance to Russia and the FSU. No mater what university or college they are attending, no mater what country they are attending school in, ALL STUDENTS are eligible to contribute. If you are a student or have a student that has written clear, original, and scholarly work about Russia, find out more here about getting it published or contact the editor. "Olga's Blog" is written by Olga Dmitraschenko, a sixteen-year-old native Muscovite and incoming freshman to Moscow State University, one of Russia's most respected educational institutions. These interactive Russian lessons will be based on issues and events in today's Russian life and written in the language of today's young, well-educated Muscovites. The texts are then glossed by the School of Russian and Asian Studies for vocabulary, cultural issues, and grammar. The texts have also been specifically designed to include some of today's youth slang! Learn about today's Russia in today's Russian!
Online Testing provides free Russian tests based on the official TORFL (Test of Russian as a Foreign Language) used by the Russian government. Educators may form special accounts with us to gain access to student's test results (only if the student has indicated while taking the exam that a specific educator should have access those particular results). Get online and test your Russian skills today! Guides to Russia offer travel information about Russia including vital information about health and safety, currency and finance, visas and registration, and housing. They also present a range of information about clubs, restaurants, packing, domestic travel in Russia, dry cleaning and laundry, culture and etiquette and just about anything else that would be useful to students spending a large amount of time abroad in Russia. See both our Guide to Russia and our Guides to Russian Cities.
SRAS for... SRAS for Educators is a series of projects to help advocate, develop, and grow Russian programs in America and help educators encourage study aboard and professor-led travel. SRAS for Students is a brief hypertext document meant to introduce students to the educational possibilities that Russia offers and funding to achieve that education. SRAS Archives Interviews and Personalities provides stories and comments from professionals and students working inside Russia. These are meant to help those interested in doing the same. Each has been featured in past issue of the newsletter (see above).
Articles and Information contains short articles about a wide range issues related to Russia. Find out more about Russian dachas, cooking, law, theatre, and more! We've also started encyclopedias here for government agencies and people, places, and concepts. Again, each of these has been featured in the newsletter (see above). SRAS Encyclopedia of People, Places, and Events provides all the pop-up annotations to our other articles and resources in one useful, though completely random resource. Regions and Cities are some of our most popular pages. They provide information about the history and major educational institutions of regions and cities throughout Russia. SRAS invites you to come to Russia to see it all for yourself! (click for more info about study abroad programs in Russia!) The links below recap our services, without the annotation. They lead to the same pages the links above lead to.
