St. Petersburg State University is located in the cultural capital of Russia. For students interested in the arts or literature, studying at SPbGU is an easy choice. Surrounding you will be the Hermitage (the largest art collection in the world), numerous conservatories and theatres, the settings and inspiration for countless Russian literary classics, and some of the most cutting-edge music clubs in Europe. Its language programs are some of Russia's best and are frequented by students from all over the world. This means that at SPbGU you will quickly find a support group of English-speaking friends with whom to explore the city. Just be careful not to let them become too much of a crutch while you are there; get out and meet some of the 20,000 Russian students that will be attending university with you.
Feature Program - Master's Degree, Philology
Any student who already holds a BA in Russian and has passed a Level Two TORFL Certification Exam may apply for this master's degree program. It's accelerated curriculum lasts two years and covers everything a Russian student would learn in the course of his/her BA and MA. All courses are taught in Russian. Combined with Center for Translation Studies (see below), and the practical RSL teaching experience the program offers, St Petersburg State University is a very attractive place to earn an MA. The Fedorov Center for Translation Studies
All students attending St. Petersburg programs are eligible to apply for practical experience at the Fedorov Center. Depending on the student's particular Russian skills, they may find work as English proofreaders, translators, or interpreters. Internships and paid positions are available (up to about 10USD per page of translation). Those who receive translation work receive additional training and are taught to use Trados, a industry standard software translation program.
Featured RSL - Summer Semester
St. Petersburg really comes alive during the summer, when daylight stretches to near endlessness and tourists of all nationalities flock to the city, creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere and a boost in population to support nightlife and culture. The University
St. Petersburg State University (SPbGU) is the oldest university in Russia. Founded by Peter the Great in 1724, SPbGU continues to serve as one of Russia's largest academic and cultural centers. Scientists such as Mendeleev and Popov studied here as did the writers and musicians Turgenev, Blok, and Stravinsky. Seven Nobel Prize winners can be counted among the graduates and professors of St. Petersburg State University. The main campus of SPbGU is located along the Neva River within walking distance of the Hermitage and Nevsky Prospekt.
