Work Study: Journalism
- Research, Report, and Learn -

SRAS's Work Study: Journalism Program offers intensive, professionally-focused Russian lessons and the opportunity to study the current Russian mass media as it exists and operates today. At the same time, students will be placed working in Moscow's most circulated English-language daily, researching stories in Russian and English and reporting in English.

- Curriculum -

Russian Language Study
Students will receive eight academic hours per week of individual or small-group (2-3 students) language instruction designed to meet ACTFL guidelines. At the end of the semester, the TORFL exam can be taken at no extra charge.

Seminar – "Living and Working in Russia"
A one-time seminar (about three academic hours) addressing important issues to those considering working in Russia. Visas, work permits, and daily life in Russia. Employment opportunities in the public and private sectors and how to navigate them.

RS-314: Rhetoric in the Russian Mass Media
Russian language in the mass media as a key to the understanding modern Russian society, culture, and behavior. This course is taught in English and combines theoretical and practical work to enable students to study Russian broadcasting, the press and cinema. How mass media operates in Russia and analysis of Russian-language text and transcripts.

RS 403: Journalism Internship
Students spend a minimum of 25 real hours per week working for The Moscow Times, Moscow's most popular English-language daily newspaper. Students will work with the editors there to research, write, and publish articles. Students will also work at transcribing interviews and generally assisting management and staff in the daily production of the newspaper.
