SRAS offers a one-week, crash course into Russian archives. Based on our long-standing Research Travel Services, our experts in archival research will help introduce you to navigating some of Moscow's largest and most important archives. By offering this new, packaged service, we hope to make our services even more affordable to researchers as well as provide them with new networking opportunities.

This course also includes welcome and closing events and assistance in locating housing. Individual sessions with our staff can be optionally arranged to provide access to and support for specific archives not included in the regular tour. Upon request, the support package can be expanded to include long-term visa, housing, and/or logistical support.

Archival research is often the difference between a good thesis or dissertation and a great one. We at SRAS are here to help you realize the goals you set for yourself.

Welcome Dinner
Meet the other researchers joining this program and the SRAS staff who'll be guiding your experience. We'll discuss the week's plans, have a general orientation to Moscow and its archives, and have some great Georgian food!

Tours of Moscow Archives
Tours of 3-4 archives will be held throughout the week. These may include  the Foreign Affairs Archive, State Archive of the Russian Federation, Russian Government Archive of Contemporary History, Russian State Library named after Lenin, and/or The Russian State Archive of Literature and Arts. The actual schedule will not be known until at least two weeks before the start of the program due to protocols for groups entering the archives. We will try to present a diverse (politics, history, arts) lineup.

Face-to-Face
SRAS will additionally arrange for you to meet experts, including from research institutes such as ROMIR, SOVA, and/or the Levada Center. These may entail trips to their offices, or a general mixer held with guests. Guest list and venue TBA.

Optional Individual Sessions
If you have specific requests for archives, house museums, or other resources you need, let us know as early as possible. We can assist in getting you access, showing you how to use the facility, and even providing translation help if needed. These services are not included in the regular program or its costs - contact us for an estimate.

Housing and visa processing are not included in the program cost although SRAS will make reservations for you at a hostel, hotel, or serviced apartment upon request for no additional charge. Upon request, SRAS can also provide full visa assistance. Most participants will arrive on tourist visas, good for 29 days of travel inside the country. Researchers wishing to stay longer may additionally request assistance in locating longer-term housing and visa solutions. Ask us about health and accident insurance and/or round-trip airport transfers if needed. Additional charges for these optional services may vary by the solution chosen and by the length of stay. SRAS can also assist you in visiting other locations within Russia, Eastern Europe, or Central Asia. Just ask!
