Standard Sessions
Staying for a full summer, semester, or academic year will give you the best value for your money. While even a brief excursion abroad to see and hear the places, people, and language you've read and wondered about can be invaluable to your studies and future career, true understanding takes time and patience. There will be a certain amount of culture shock and acclimation to go through before you can stop trying to understand the language and culture and start actually living with them.
A less philosophical reason for choosing standard periods is that they help disperse the basic costs (such as international travel) over a longer period of study. Also, by signing up for a standard session, overall enrollment costs are lower. All of this ensures that more of your money will be spent on what you really want: language study and experiencing the new city and country that surround you.  I have questions about...

Program Sessions and Costs
Summer: June 9 - August 1, 2008 (Apply by March 15th) Cost: $4 195
Includes tuition for study as outlined, dormitory accommodation, visa and registration, pre-departure materials, local orientation, health and accident insurance, cultural program, round-trip airport transfers, and SRAS in-country support. Programs in Moscow and St. Petersburg include mobile telephone with initial sim card.
Note: Due to a significant tuition increase, there is an additional charge of $800 for the 8-week RSL program at Moscow State University. Spring: Feb 4 - May 23rd, 2008 (Apply by Oct 16) OR Fall: Sept 1 - Dec 19, 2008 (Apply by May 1) Cost: $6 195 Includes all services listed above. Note: Due to a significant tuition increase, there is an additional charge of $1600 for the 16-week RSL program at Moscow State University. Full academic year Cost: 10 595$
