Scholarships and Funding Available for Russia and Eurasia Related Study! The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships program provides allocations of academic year and summer fellowships to institutions of higher education or consortia of institutions of higher education to assist meritorious undergraduate students and graduate students undergoing training in modern foreign languages and related area or international studies. Eligible students apply for fellowships directly to an institution that has received an allocation of fellowships from the U.S. Department of Education. Deadline: Jan-Feb, 2010 (check with your home institution to enquire as to availability and actual deadlines - click here for more general info) The Kathryn Davis Fellowships for Peace cover the full price of a summer of language training at Middleburry Colleege. Deadline: Feb 10, 2010 (more info) The Collaborative Research Grants in the Humanities program provides support of up to $50,400 for U.S. scholars conducting humanities research in any country of Eurasia and Eastern Europe. Deadline: Feb 15, 2010 (more info) American Friends of Russian Folklore is pleased to announce that it will offer a scholarship ($2,300) for the Don Cossack Folklore Expedition, from June 1 to June 13, 2010. This does not include medical insurance or airfare to Russia; but food, housing and transportation for the duration of the expedition are covered. Deadline: March 1, 2010 (more info) US Embassy Policy Specialist (EPS) Program provides fellowships to US scholars and professionals for up to eight weeks to serve US Embassies in Eurasia as policy specialists on a chosen topic and pursue their own research independently. EPS Grant covers the cost of travel and in-country housing and provides a stipend for living expenses. Deadline: March 15, 2010 (more info) SRAS Work Study Programs! These new, focused programs offer discounted tuition and funds for study abroad. Choose from Translation, Business, or Journalism. Deadline: May 17, 2010. The Charles Braver Language Exploration Grant will award $500 to an SRAS applicant for language study in Russia or Kyrgyzstan for this upcoming spring semester. Deadline: May 17, 2010 (more info) SRAS Research Abroad Grants award $1000 to upperclassman and graduate students who will conduct research in Russia or Kyrgyzstan over the 2010-2011 school year. Deadline: Sept 17, 2010 (more info) National SMART Grant. Third and fourth year undergraduates can receive up to $4000. The application is now included as part of the FAFSA funding process. (more info) American Council of Learned Societies has announced a new round of scholarship cycles! Awards for US graduate students studying nearly any country of Eastern Europe are now available to assist them in travel, research, language acquisition, etc. (more info) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grants for Educators!Russkiy Mir Foundation provides grants and sponsors competitions in support of the Russian language, Russian culture, and organizations representing the Russian world. (more info) Summer Russian Language Teachers Program funds between fifteen and twenty finalists for a six-week program in Russian language, culture, and foreign language pedagogy for teachers or teachers-in-training. Applicants must be either graduate students preparing for a career in Russian-language education or current teachers of Russian at the university, secondary school, or elementary school level. Applications from K-12 teachers of Russian are especially encouraged. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Deadline: March 1, 2010. (more info) The core Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Deadline: August 2, 2010.
