VESTNIK, THE JOURNAL OF RUSSIAN AND ASIAN STUDIES  / JORDYN HOUGH RECEIVES VESTNIK JURY AWARD
18.05.2013

Jordyn Hough
Receives Vestnik Jury Award

For Immediate Release

Vestnik---placeholderThe School of Russian and Asian Studies congratulates Jordyn Hough as the recipient of the $200 Jury Award from Vestnik, The Journal of Russian and Asian Studies for our 13th issue.

Vestnik encourages students to study any subject related to the countries of the former Soviet Union. Vestnik also encourages students to develop original ideas on their subject matter and to back those ideas with solid arguments and evidence drawn from original research.

In her work entitled “Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Meek One: A Rebellious Reading,” Ms. Hough explores one of Fyodor Dostoevsky's lesser-known short stories. Her original analysis, which is both clearly structured and extraordinarily readable, provides a wide view of the themes present in that short work along with insights into the work's place within the collection of stories in which it first appeared, The Diary of a Writer, and within the life of its great Russian author. We hope that Ms. Hough's achievement may make this story more accessible to students of Russian literature and also perhaps spark greater interest in Dostoevsky's superb and often-overlooked short stories.

The Vestnik Editorial Board applauds Jordyn Hough, a recent graduate of Stetson University's Russian Studies Program, and now enrolled in Florida State University's Russian and East European Studies graduate program, for producing a conceptually strong, well-argued, and extraordinarily well-researched paper.

The board also thanks the other contributors of this 13th issue of Vestnik, Gloria Funcheon, Jason Howard, Kate West, and John Simeone, for their exceptional research and their hard work in working with the board and each other to revise and improve their papers to create this issue of Vestnik, The Journal of Russian and Asian Studies.
