PROGRAMS / FEATURE STUDY ABROAD (FSA) / INTENSIVE RUSSIAN SUMMER - INTERMEDIATE
     Site map

Intensive Russian Summer is for students ready to get serious about their Russian. With 125 contact hours packed into just five weeks, this is one of the most intensive programs available anywhere. The program is designed to help the student prepare for taking the TORFL (Level 1 or 2). TORFL is the measure of Russian language proficiency recognized in Russia for purposes of entry for university study, teaching, and even citizenship and is increasingly recognized internationally. The cost of taking the test are included in this program.

It is designed to be flexible enough to accommodate intermediate, advanced, or heritage speakers of Russian.

The 125 contact hours are broken down into the following comprehensive curriculum:

  • 15 academic hours per week small group study
  • 10 academic hours per week individual (or paired) tutoring*
  • 10 hours per week assigned reading/translation
  • TORFL – including exam preparation
* Advanced students may use tutoring hours to focus on specialized language (business, technical) or individualized projects in linguistics, literature or translation.

This program is taught at: GRINT Centre for Education and Culture at Moscow University for the Humanities

NOTE: We highly recommend that students take Russian Studies Summer I during the five-week session before this program. While Summer Intensive with TORFL is designed to be a highly intensive and stand-alone course, adding an extra session can greatly bolster the progress you can make in Russia, give more time to travel and meet people, and improve your final TORFL score! Ask us as well about traveling after the semester is over!
