Genevieve Gunow Receives $200 Jury Award
from Vestnik, The Journal of Russian and Asian Studies
The School of Russian and Asian Studies congratulates Genevieve Gunow as the recipient of the $200 Jury Prize from Vestnik, The Journal of Russian and Asian Studies for our 10th issue.
Vestnik encourages students to study any subject related to the countries of the former Soviet Union. Vestnik also encourages students to develop original ideas on their subject matter and to back those ideas with solid arguments and evidence drawn from original research.
In her work entitled "Recurring Themes in the Kyrgyz Revolutions" Ms. Gunow examines Kyrgyzstan's most recent revolutions from the fall of the Soviet Union to the modern day. By examining the common issues between the events in their historical context, Ms. Gunow shows not only the connections between them but also clearly describes the current issues that the new Kyrgyz government will need to address if they seek long-term stability for the country.
The Vestnik Editorial Board applauds Genevieve Gunow, currently a graduate student at Missouri State University’s Department of Defense and Strategic Studies, for describing complex material in a concise and accessible manner.
The board thanks also thanks the other contributors of this ninth issue of Vestnik, including Margaret Godwin-Jones, Jason Black, Jacob Reisberg, and Holly E. Myers for their hard work in working with the board and each other to revise and improve their papers to create this issue of Vestnik, The Journal of Russian and Asian Studies.
