EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS / PRIVATE LANGUAGE SCHOOLS
     Site map

In this new section of the SRAS website we will be listing several private language schools in Russia and their programs. It is important to note the differences between study at a private language school and study at a university in Russia.

Private language schools generally are small organizations that may either be entirely independent, or they may be affiliated (officially or unofficially) with a Russian university. Regardless of their structure, they should work on the basis of an educational license as issued by the Ministry of Education in Russia.

Some of the advantages of study at a private language school relate to the level of service. They are more "commercially" oriented, meaning that they will tend to be more responsive to student needs. They are also set up so as to work more efficiently with individuals studying for shorter periods of time and so the programs themselves are structured with this in mind, i.e. more cultural events and activities. The cost is usually higher per week than basic study options in Russian universities because more support and activities are included in the package price. The quality of teaching is on a par with that of Russian universities because the teachers are often one and the same and certainly have undergone the same training.

The main disadvantage of study in a private language school is related to recognition of the institution and questions of credit transfer and the use of some forms of funding for your study there. Also, you are generally restricted to the exact courses as offered and may not always have access to extended resources of a full university.

We will soon be listing on this page a select number of recommended private language schools in Russia with links to information about their programs. You can either apply directly to these schools or you can apply via SRAS as there is no cost difference to you. By applying through SRAS we can provide additional support to you in the study process and help you to decide on the best option and school in Russia.
