APPETIZER  (ÇÀÊÓÑÊÀ)

SRAS offers three "main courses:" RSL, FSL, and Direct Enrollment. Each is described in greater detail below and each can be customized to fullfill your personal needs. In determining which program is right for you, there are actually three questions to answer: which program, which educational institution, and which region/city is right for you?  You will notice on our sidebar menu that we have provided sections to help you decide each of these three questions.  An SRAS consultant can work with you to make sure you get the best experience possible in terms of budget/financial aid, credit transfer, and travel logistics. Feel free to contact us with any questions.  Ïðèÿòíîãî àïïåòèòà! Enjoy!  More about this site

MAIN COURSE  (ÏÅÐÂÎÅ ÁËÞÄÎ)

"I learned at least a year's worth of Russian in just a few months and by the next year I was reading notes from party conferences as research for my Master's thesis in Russian history."   -S. Long, Summer '94

pelmeniRSL – Maximum Russian, Minimum Cost
RSL offers a core curriculum designed to teach you the maximum possible Russian in the least amount of time. This highly popular, intensive course offers 20 academic hours per week, a cultural program, and a flexible time frame. RSL is available at SRAS partner universities from St. Pete to Vladivostok.  Click the heading for more info!

FSA – Language and More
FSA is Featured Study Abroad, so named because each of these programs has a base of language training, but is defined by featured courses.  Some of these courses are designed for advanced students only (they are taught in Russian) but several also offer subject study in English.  Click the heading above for a full list of offerings.

bliniDirect Enrollment – A Real Russian Education
SRAS can help you choose and enroll in a Russian University as a visiting scholar, a degree-seeking student, or for nearly any other purpose. Upon enrollment, you are a full member of the institution, taking classes with Russian students and perhaps eventually earning your degree. Russian degrees are recognized the world over and offer a cost-effective solution to today’s soaring costs of education.

TORFL Testing - Certify Your Russian!
The TORFL test was developed by the Russian government as a means of objectively assessing a person’s Russian language skills.  It is an international standard, accepted by many universities and businesses worldwide.  This option is free with some programs.

Internships – Achieving Practical Experience
You need not be fluent in Russian to work in Russia. The newly international Russian economy demands native English speakers and fresh perspectives for any number of positions across the country. As at home, internships are a learning experience, and may turn into real job offers.

Independent Study - Name Your Subject
This option gives you the opportunity to study nearly any subject from inside Russia.  SRAS provides you a Russian adviser to help you gather information and formulate an approach.  You will complete the research and final paper on your own, using resources inside Russia that SRAS and your host university help you to access.  Credit available!

Home Stays - Live in the Culture
...I come home from my day of classes and my host mom is making Blini. She managed to communicate with me (mostly through a dictionary and a friend of her son's who spoke a little English) that she was making a ton of blini for the banya party that night.... they were having a going away party for her son's friend who was leaving for Europe the next day. They told me I was coming too...  -Monica Belz, 2004.

For a more immersive experience, our more adventurous students often elect to stay in a Russian household.  It's not for everyone, but it is an experience!

Travel-Study – See Russia Up Close
A great opportunity for more active learners, SRAS can help you plan trips across Russia including transport, rooms, tickets to events, etc. See the countryside and speak to your fellow Russian travelers (who are usually quite friendly and talkative). For groups, SRAS can also provide guided excursions and seminars as well.
